Never enough time…

Now that I have my little blog test setup,  I am having difficulty creating the time to actual post anything.  I’d rather play with my kids anyways but I plan on doing some OpenBSD examples  for VPN’s , and some other things.   Who knows maybe I’ll can the whole thing.  I just wanted to see what this whole blog phenomenon was and if I had any blogging  blood in me.  So far,  no.

Coffee in the shower

We were getting ready to go out to eat dinner somewhere and I step out of the shower with a coffee cup in my hand…  The wife says “What?” …    me.. “What’s the problems?”

Apple Products

I’m really starting to dislike some Apple Products.
Apple Devices we currently have in our home include:

  • Macbook  – wife’s   (slow as ass)
  • MacMini – wife’s (slow as ass)
  • Iphone 3g – mine (jail broken)
  • IPhone 3gs- wife’s (great device ,  just not jailbroken)
  • Airport Extreme – access point (no web UI)

One REALLY annoying problem we have experienced,  and continue to do so is that the Macbook and the MiniMac keep getting disassociated from my access point which is your standard run of the mill Linksys wtg B/G AP.  For some reason the OSX systems cannot keep a connection.  I figured it was a signal issue however the problem still occurs when sitting right next to the AP.  all of our other devices,  IPhones,  Linux, BSD, Windows laptops,  WII etc can hook up and connect JUST FINE.

I called Mac Support about the Macmini dropping the WiFi since it was under warranty and,  as expected,  the clueless MacTech support person suggested a reinstall.  By the way,  I noticed that most  mac people have no earthly idea how their systems run under the hood.

We got passed on to  an level 2  or 3 technician and  he suggested that we wipe out the preferences for the devices and reset up the wifi part on the mini.  Told me to reboot my router (OpenBSD box running on soekris net 5501-70, up for 80+ days, no thanks).  Same issue.  I told the guy on the phone that we are using an Linksys Access Point which he kept calling a router throughout the conversation.  After doing so,  Tech guy says ahh that is the problem,  Apple WiFi and Linksys are not compatible…  there are such things as internet protocol standards right?  syslogd shows a bunch of airportd errors but the tech support guy didn’t care about those.  Whatever, the phone call ended same way  most do when calling tech support,  no resolution.  You know how it is.
The wife went out and purchased an Airport Extreme WiFi Access point as suggested by some of her Mac Friends and we are still in the same boat.  If anyone knows how to fix this problem we would lo ve to hear about it.
